I need a poetry challenge like I need a llama at a wedding.

Which, apparently, is to say I need a poetry challenge. Because I most definitely cannot get enough of these wedding llamas and alpacas.

I was introduced to these guys today in the Twitterverse, which you can criticize all you want, but I will disagree and say, “Llamas.” Because today I learned from Twitter that in the Portland and Vancouver areas, you can have an alpaca or llama join you at your wedding reception. Or another event, but who can resist the image of llamas and alpacas at a wedding? Not me.

This program is run by a non-profit that uses the proceeds to fund an animal-assisted therapy program, and I found the pictures irresistible. And for reasons I can’t explain, I think this deserves a poetry challenge. I’m no poet (I have said this before), but in the spirit of my own challenge I offer up three haiku—and I beg you to write some llama-alpaca-wedding poetry of your own.

I think this one is my favorite photo. See below for haiku.

Frills, pink lace, chiffon,
Floral garland, biggest day.
Alpaca. … No groom.

Full-face beard of white,
Floral garland ’round his neck,
Proud groom’s dignity.

I would share my day,
I’d even wear the white gown
To wed with llamas.
